ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team will remain home for their next contest on Saturday, March 12 when they host the Wartburg Knights in a non-conference matchup.
The Vikings are coming off of a close 12-9 defeat on Wednesday to the Edgewood Eagles in their home opener. It was an evenly-played contest outside of the second quarter, where a three-goal advantage for the Eagles proved to be the difference in the final score. Edgewood has pushed their lead to five within the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, but three straight scores from Augustana all within a minute of each other made it an 11-9 game with ten minutes remaining. The Vikings were unable to send in anything into the back of the net the rest of the way and the Eagles notched one more insurance goal at the four-minute mark to bring the final score to 12-9.
Cassidy Petrie led Augie with three goals on 12 shots in the contest, followed by two scores from
Kyla Painter and
Margaret Cecilio.
Sawyer Graham had 12 saves in net for the Vikings.
Wartburg enters Saturday with an 0-4 record so far this season. The Knights were defeated in their most recent outing last Saturday on the road at UW-River Falls by a score of 22-7. The Knights finished the 2021 season with a 2-9 record, but won two of their final four contests to close out the year.
Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Thorson-Lucken Field.
Live video and
live stats will both be available for the contest.
