ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will be back on the road on Wednesday, February 9 when they visit the No. 20 ranked Elmhurst Bluejays in an important CCIW matchup.
The Vikings are entering Wednesday's clash with the Bluejays following a dominating performance on Saturday when they defeated North Park on the road by a score of 91-60. Senior
Luke Johnson posted a career-high 28 points in the contest on 10-13 shooting and is coming off a week in which he shot 75 percent from the floor. Also in double figures was
Dan Carr, who scored 11 of his 16 in the second half. He secured 18 rebounds in the contest for the third time in the last five games. With the win over their Viking counterpart, Augie currently solidifies themselves as the sole owner of sixth place, which would qualify them for the CCIW tournament at the moment.
Elmhurst moved up a spot to No. 20 in the latest d3hoops.com top 25 poll following a 2-0 week that saw wins over Carthage and North Central. Their most recent contest came on Monday, a 93-67 road victory over Carroll. Jake Rhode, who was named the CCIW Player of the Week on Monday, had 17 points for the Bluejays against the Pioneers and has posted double figures scoring the ball in all but one game this year. Elmhurst currently sits at 17-5 overall and 9-4 in conference play. They are riding a five-game win streak and are 1.5 games out of first place.
The Bluejays won the previous meeting this season over the Vikings, an 86-66 victory in Rock Island. Elmhurst has won three of the last four encounters, but Augie is 12-4 against them since 2014. The Vikings own a record of 98-48 in the all-time series.
