Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Viking baseball team (3-0) outscored the Fontbonne Griffins 12-1 on their way to a comfortable non-conference victory in Memphis. The Vikings got a complete performance and benefitted from a nine-run first inning in the win.

Augustana started their explosive day by getting their first three batters on base via hit batsman and two singles. The scoring began when Matt Helms slapped a single to score Alex Simon. The inning continued with an Alec McGinnis single to plate Matt Ozanic. Back-to-back walks and another single from Simon brought in four more runs for the Vikings. Kyle Wise kept things going for Augie with a two-RBI single of his own. Fontbonne finally got out of the first frame on a Helms groundout but not before the Vikings brought nine runs across.

The Vikings eventually plated another run in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the fifth.

Fontbonne scored their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. The Griffins' starter, Gavin Kinworthy, took the loss.

Josh Wintroub started and earned the win for the Vikings. The senior right-hander recorded seven K's while walking one, allowing six hits, and one earned run. Anthony Sus and Spencer Hasselroth saw limited relief action for Augustana.

The Vikings baseball team will be back in action next week for a pair of non-conference games against Loras College and Illinois College on Feb. 26 and 27.
