Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team was defeated on the road on Saturday, falling to the Kalamazoo Hornets by a score of 7-2.
Augie got on the board first in doubles play at the No. 3 spot as Nicholas Navarro and
Justin Cassens defeated their opponent by a score of 8-2. The Hornets evened the match up with a win at No. 2, followed by a narrow 8-7 victory over
Arthur Hermange and
Deepak Vayara at No. 1, Kalamazoo led 2-1 heading into singles competition.
The Hornets grabbed the first three wins of singles play to officially clinch the match over the Vikings. Augustana picked up a win at No. 6 singles as
Gabriel Luna defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-2. Kalamazoo ended the match with a 7-2 victory.
It was a tough start to our spring season for the men, but competed well against two tough opponents," said head coach David DeSimone. "This is a weekend where we learned more about a few key areas we need to improve as a team. Tim Philip stood out this weekend with a great third set win Friday against cornerstone and a very competitive match today at Kalamazoo."
The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, February 19 when they host Luther. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. from Quad City Tennis Club.
