ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team was defeated on the road Friday night, falling to the Fontbonne Griffins by a score of 3-1.

The Griffins broke a 10-10 tie in the first set with six of the next seven points scored to cushion themselves away from the Vikings and hold on to the 25-17 victory and secure a 1-0 lead in the match. In set two, the home team saw a scoring outburst early on in the game, tallying the first five points. Augie never got the margin under three points and Fontbonne went up 2-0 in the match following a 25-18 victory.

Augustana bounced back in the third, winning a close one at 25-23 to extend the match. With the set tied at 21 points apiece, the Vikings rattled off three straight, but were countered with two consecutive scores from the Griffins. A kill from Aidan Bolen on the ensuing rally sealed the game to bring it to a fourth set. Fontbonne began the next frame with 15 of the first 20 points scored and eventually won the set by a score of 25-11 to earn the home match win over Augustana.

Bolen led the Vikings with a team-high 12 kills on the night, followed by seven from Aiden Bond and six from Josh Van Essen. Matthew Degnan finished with 23 assists.

With the loss, Augie drops to 3-5 on the season. The team will remain in St. Louis for two matches tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m. against Concordia-Chicago, followed with Trine at 4:00 p.m.
