WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Augustana women's basketball traveled to Wisconsin on Wednesday for a road bout against the UW-Whitewater Warhawks. The Vikings dropped the contest 92-64, moving to 6-3 on the season.
Augie saw early offensive aggression from Whitewater, allowing 31 points in the opening frame. The Warhawks shot 7-8 from beyond the arc to complete a season-high three-point scoring frame. The Vikings fell behind early, notching just 13 points in the quarter.
Carly Stone dropped in the Vikings' lone three-point basket of the opening period while making 3-4 attempts from the stripe. Whitewater posted another significant margin in the second period, outscoring Augie 21-10 on their way to a 29-point halftime advantage.
Gabriela Loiz opened the second half in the scoring department for the Vikings as they played an even half with the Warhawks to close the game. The Vikings put together their highest-scoring third period of the season with 22 points, also out-rebounding Whitewater in the frame 9-8, with three coming on the offensive glass.
The Vikings bench was deployed in the fourth period with the contest out of reach. Augie outpaced the Warhawks in scoring for the lone frame of the matchup, led by
Linnea Johansen's five points.
The Viking's leading scorer on the night was Loiz, who contributed 20 points on 7-10 shooting. She snatched five boards and two steals to add to her season-high scoring effort.
Carly Stone added 11 points toward a 32-point bench effort from Augustana.
The Vikings move to 6-3 on the season following the road loss. Augie remains away for their second contest of a three-game road stretch when they face North Park on Saturday, December 10. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the North Park University Gym.
