ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana women's basketball team welcomed in conference foe Millikin on Saturday, falling to the Big Blue 65-54 from inside the Carver Center.
The Vikings got to the line early in the opening frame, earning their first three points from the stripe. Millikin responded with a seven-point scoring run to take the lead and held on to a four-point advantage after 10 minutes of action. Augie distributed the ball efficiently, assisting on each of their made shots from the field in the first period.
The two teams played an even second period, notching 15 points each. The Vikings took the lead back at 28-25 on a made three-pointer from Emily Brenneisen, who shot 2-3 and kick-started a six-point scoring run for Augie midway through the period. Millikin grabbed their four-point lead back after using a 9-2 run to end the quarter and led 34-30 at the break.
Millikin built a 12-point lead out of the half, aided by their best three-point shooting period of the contest. The Vikings briefly cut the lead to as little as eight points early in the fourth frame, but a stretch of efficient shooting from the Big Blue extended their lead to double-digits. Back-to-back Millikin three-pointers put the contest out of reach for the Vikings with just over three minutes remaining.
Augie fell by a score of 69-54, pushing their home record to 4-2 from inside the Carver Center.
Macy Beinborn and Matayia Tellis led the Vikings in scoring, both dropping 11 points. Presley Case hauled in nine boards, with the next closest Viking grabbing five. Augie matched their season-high steal effort with 10, the other coming against Webster on November 26.
The Vikings move to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in CCIW play following the loss to Millikin. Augie will hit the road for the first time in nearly a month when they face No. 9 ranked UW-Whitewater on December 7. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the Williams Center.
