GALESBURG, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will continue their road stretch when they step out of conference to face the Knox Prairie Fire on Monday, December 19.
Augie enters the matchup with a 2-8 overall record following a 85-78 road loss to Carthage on Saturday. The Vikings faced an early double-digit deficit, but stormed back to cut it to just a point late in the first half. A surge from the Firebirds pushed their halftime margin back up to double figures before stretching their lead to as many as 20 in the second half. Augie fought back and eventually trimmed the score to under 10, but ran out of time as Carthage held on for the seven-point win.
Anthony Cooper and
Daniel Carr both notched 20-point efforts for the Vikings, with Cooper tallying a career-best 23 points and Carr one behind Cooper at 22 to go with his 14 rebounds.
Matt Hanushewsky added 12 points and three assists.Â
Knox currently sits at 2-9 overall and have lost nine of 10 after beginning the season with a win over Marantha Baptist. The Prairie Fire fell to Dominican 66-43 in their most recent matchup back on December 14.
Augustana and Knox have met 77 times, with the Vikings holding a 48-29 all-time record. This will be the first meeting between the two since 2014, which resulted in a 86-61 win for Augie in Galesburg.
