WINONA, Minn. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will take on the St. Mary's (Minn.) Cardinals on Saturday, November 12 for their first road contest of the season.

Augustana comes in with an 0-1 record after a hard-fought 95-90 battle with UW-Whitewater on Tuesday. The Vikings and Warhawks, who entered the season receiving votes in the preseason D3hoops.com top 25 poll, played to an even 42-42 first half. Whitewater broke away from the back-and-forth play halfway through the second half, stretching their lead to as many as nine and withstood a comeback effort from the Vikings to hold on for the five-point win. Daniel Carr had a monster opening game for Augie, finishing with a career-best 32 points to go along with 16 rebounds. Matt Hanushewsky added 10 points and six assists.

The Cardinals enter Saturday with a 1-0 mark in the early season after knocking off Crown College on the road on Tuesday. St. Mary's pulled away in the second half, out-scoring their opponent by 11 in the final 20 minutes to build upon their one-point halftime lead. Raheem Anthony scored 30 points on 9-14 shooting to lead the Cardinals. St. Mary's ended the 2021-22 season with an 8-16 overall record.

This will be third-ever meeting all-time between the two programs, with each winning one game apiece. The Vikings squeaked an overtime victory last season at home by a score of 79-73. Four Augie players had double-digit scoring, led by Carr's 21-point, 17-rebound effort. Last year's encounter was the first time the two teams met since the 1938-39 season, a 46-42 victory for the Cardinals.
