ROCK ISLAND -- Augie men's soccer returns to Thorson-Lucken Field on October 8 to host their second conference matchup this week, squaring off Saturday against the Millikin Big Blue.
The Vikings are coming off a matchup against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans, falling in the final moments of a rain-filled contest which puts them at 0-9-1 on the season. The Vikings struck first in the match off the foot of
Jimmie Kucaba, showing an offensive prowess that has lacked as of late. The Titans responded with two goals of their own, putting them ahead 2-1 at the end of the first half. Augie then scored in minute 67 off the right foot of
Jarrett Baumgartner, utilizing a a free kick assist from
Matias Bidegaray. The contest concluded in dramatic fashion, with Dane Hoare of Illinois Wesleyan sending the fatal blow through the back of the net with just 13 seconds remaining. The match ended in a 3-2 score, favoring the Titans.
Coming into the matchup Saturday, either Millikin or Augustana could walk away with their first victory of the fall season. The Big Blue are coming off a 3-0 loss to WashU, in which they were outshot by a 21-10 margin.
Augustana leads the all-time series against Millikin, holding a 22-12-2 record. Millikin won the most recent matchup between the programs by a score of 2-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field (2021).
