DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings football team will remain on the road for the second straight week as they gear up to take on the Millikin Big Blue on Saturday, October 9.

Augustana enters with a 2-2 overall record and 1-2 mark in the CCIW following a 44-41 double overtime loss to Carroll last weekend. Augie fell behind 17-0 early on in the first half, but two touchdown connections between Cole Bhardwaj and Craig Shelton in the second quarter brought the Vikings within three at the break. Augustana eventually took the lead at 21-20 and held a lead as big as eight early in the fourth quarter, but the two teams traded touchdowns down the stretch, resulting in a 35-35 game after four quarters of action. Each team tallied a field goal in the opening overtime session, but it was Carroll who responded to a Vikings field goal in the second overtime with a touchdown to take the game by a final of 44-41.

Bhardwaj ended his night 19-33 through the air for 198 yards and the three scores. Jacob Brooks tallied 142 yards on the ground with two touchdowns, while Shelton was the team's top pass-catcher with six for 73 yards. Ronde Worrels led the defensive unit with 12 tackles, followed by Nick Harper with 10. Carroll out-gained Augustana 502-373.

Millikin comes in with an identical record both overall and in conference as Augustana. The Big Blue were defeated by Illinois Wesleyan in their most recent outing, a 38-24 loss on the road. Illinois Wesleyan scored the first 14 points of the game and had a 10-point halftime advantage on their way to the victory.

Augie leads the all-time series between the two programs 45-35-1. The Big Blue have won four of the last five meetings, not including a four-overtime 40-34 win in an unofficial contest in 2020. Millikin defeated Augustana last season in Rock Island, also in overtime, by a final of 27-21.
