WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will hit the road to take on the Carroll Pioneers for the second time in seven days as the two teams get set to square off in the CCIW Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, October 29.
Augie enters postseason play with a 9-5-4 overall record and 3-2-3 mark in the CCIW, earning them the No. 5 overall seed. The Vikings played to a 1-1 draw with the North Central Cardinals on Wednesday, a team that entered receiving votes in two major national polls and third in the latest regional rankings. Lexi Dominguez got the Vikings on the board first, sending a shot barely over the goal line following a chatoic scramble in from of the North Central net. With less than three minutes to go, the Cardinals equalized the game and the two teams played out the remaining minutes with the 1-1 tie. North Central out-shot Augustana 19-4 in the contest as
Janey Castoe grabbed a career-high 11 saves for the Vikings. Augie currently boasts a five-game unbeaten streak.
Carroll comes in to the CCIW Tournament with a 10-3-5 record and 3-1-4 mark in conference action, earning them the No. 4 overall seed. The Pioneers jumped over Augie in the standings following a 1-0 win over North Park in their regular-season finale. Carroll is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak and has seen success at home this season, posting a 7-2-2 record at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers' lone loss in the CCIW this season came on the road at Wheaton, a 1-0 defeat.
Augustana and Carroll meet last Saturday, also in Waukesha, resulting in a scoreless tie. The Pioneers out-shot the Vikings 13-7 in the game, with seven of their attempts on target, resulting in seven saves for Castoe.
Kayla Garcia had a team-high five shots, three on goal, for the Vikings. Augie is 4-2-3 all-time versus Carroll.
Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The winner of Saturday's game will face No. 1 seed Illinois Wesleyan next Wednesday.
