LISLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team was upended on the road on Wednesday in their final non-conference match of the season, falling to the Benedictine Eagles by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21).
The Vikings grabbed the first six points of the opening set and grew their advantage to as many as seven before the Eagles stormed back to even things at 17 points apiece. The home team claimed their first lead of the game after that, stretching it to as many as three at 21-18 before squeaking out a two-point win.
Benedictine led wire-to-wire in the second set to extend their match lead to 2-0, but in the third were met by another fast start from the Vikings, who jumped out to a quick 10-4 advantage. Augie kept their lead intact for a majority of the set, leading 21-19 at one point, but were met with six straight scores from the Eagles to close out the game. Benedictine won the third set 25-21 to secure the match by a final of 3-0.
Emily Schipper had 10 kills to lead the Vikings, while
Grace Vranicar snagged 14 digs.
With the loss, Augie drops to 15-10 overall. The team will return home for their next match on Saturday, October 15 when they host the North Park Vikings for Senior Night. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from inside the Carver Center.
