ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team picked up a key conference home win on Saturday, defeating the visiting North Park Vikings in three set by a final of 26-24, 25-19, 25-17.
North Park quickly doubled up Augie to begin the match, securing a quick 8-4 advantage. The visitors maintained a lead for a majority of the set until Augustana used a 9-2 run to turn a 15-11 deficit into a three-point lead. North Park charged back to tie and eventually take a lead at 23-22, but four of the next five points came in favor of Augustana as they squeaked out a 26-24 victory to go up 1-0 in the match.
Augie never trailed in the second game, jumping out to a quick 8-4 lead before stretching it to as many as five at 19-14 later on. The visiting Vikings stormed back to cut to it one with four consecutive scores, but another late run from Augustana secured their second win of the match. Two kills from
Ja'Nya Davis helped Augie close out set two with six of the final seven points.
In set three, the two teams traded point to start things off, resulting in a 9-9 tie early on. From there, Augustana rattled off seven consecutive points to take control, eventually growing their differential to as many as nine before holding on for the seven-point win. The Vikings grabbed five of the final seven points scored to complete the sweep over their Viking counterpart.
Caroline Hurst and
Jaden Julius each led the Vikings with eight kills apiece, while
Amelie Baehr-Ross helped fuel the offensive efforts with 20 assists.
Syd Krueger had three solo blocks to help anchor the Augie defense.
With the win, the Vikings improve to 16-10 overall and 4-3 in the CCIW. Augustana will remain home for their final regular-season contest of the year on Wednesday, October 26 when they host the Carroll Pioneers. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from inside the Carver Center.
