WHEATON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will hit the road for a critical CCIW showdown on Wednesday, October 19 as they gear up to take on the Wheaton Thunder.
Augie currently sits a game behind the Thunder in the CCIW standings. The Vikings picked up two wins last week, beginning with a 3-0 win over Elmhurst before knocking off the Adrian Bulldogs on Saturday in a non-conference matchup.
Maeve Sheridan, who was named the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, scored first for Augie in the game.
Kim Vulic added an insurance goal in the second half, proving to be more than enough as the Vikings notched their fourth shutout win of the season. Augustana currently sits 8-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCIW.
The Thunder enter Wednesday's meeting with a 4-6-3 overall record, but are 3-1-1 in league action. Wheaton has won three straight games, including back-to-back 1-0 wins over Carthage and Carroll. They have not lost since October 1.
Augustana leads the all-time series between the two programs, 44-25. Wheaton won both meetings last year, including a 2-1 double-overtime win in the CCIW conference tournament semifinals. The Vikings have not beaten the Thunder since 2015.
