PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, falling to the UW-La Crosse Eagles 3-2 before dropping a 3-1 contest to the host school UW-Platteville Pioneers.
Match One (L 3-2 vs. UW-La Crosse)
Augie bounced back from an opening-set loss with wins in the second and third, which included a thrilling 28-26 victory in the second to even things up. The Vikings scored the final three points of the frame to knot the match up at one win apiece. In set three, Augustana used a 9-0 run after jumping out to a 15-10 lead, to run away with a 25-14 victory.
The Eagles stormed back from a five-point deficit in the third to eventually tie the match at 2-2. Augie held a 22-18 lead in the game, but endured an 8-2 run from La Crosse to close it out with a 26-24 score. The Eagles took the fifth set 15-6 to complete the comeback win.
Three Vikings posted double-digit kills in the contest, led by 18 from
Emily Schipper.
Caroline Hurst added 15, while
Syd Krueger had 12.
Amelie Baehr-Ross finished the five-set match with 44 assists.
Match Two (L 3-1 vs. UW-Platteville)
Augie won the opener against Platteville in their second match of the day, erasing a two-point deficit at 20-18 to take the first set by two points. The Pioneers responded with three consecutive wins, preventing the Vikings from tallying more than 18 points and any of the remaining games.
Jaden Julius had eight kills to lead the Vikings.
With the losses, Augustana drops to 15-9 on the season. The team will be back in action Wednesday night at Benedictine.
