Women's tennis defeated by Carthage

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team fell in their final regular-season match this fall on Saturday, defeated by the visiting Carthage Firebirds by a score of 6-3 from the Lower Campus Courts.

The Firebirds grabbed the early advantage, winning all three doubles contests on their way to an early 3-0 lead heading into singles. Augie and Carthage split their six matches in singles, each winning three apiece, resulting in the 6-3 triumph for the Firebirds.

Augie earned their wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 singles, with Caitlyn Hanulikova and Hannah Colbert each securing identical 6-2, 6-1 victories at No. 2 and 4, respectively. Michaela Magee took her match at the No. 3 slot by a final of 6-1, 6-3.

"We played well in singles," said head coach David DeSimone. "The decider came from doubles and it was too difficult to come back from. We had a good fall portion and will be excited to get back to work in the spring."

This concludes the regular-season slate for the CCIW this fall. The team will be back in action in early spring.
