ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana women's basketball (10-10, 4-7) completed the season sweep of the Carroll Pioneers (13-5, 5-5) this evening with a 67-56 home victory.
The Vikings benefitted from an explosive first half on the offensive end and outlasted several Pioneer advances in the second half to earn their 10
th win of the year.
Augustana scored 20+ points in each of the first two quarters while holding Carroll to just 27 total points in that same span.
Carroll started the second half down 41-27 but came out of the break with aggression. The Pioneers implemented a high-pressure full court defense that stymied the Augie women and allowed Carroll to climb back into the game. Both teams scored 17 points in the third period while Augie managed just nine in the fourth. The Pioneers erased most of the Viking lead in the second half, trailing by as little as three points, but could not keep up with Augustana.
The Vikings were led by freshman guard
Emma Berg with a game-high 20 points. Most of Berg's scoring came in the first half and from beyond the three-point arc. Berg scored her output on 7-of-13 field goal shooting and 6-of-10 shooting from range. Berg also snagged three rebounds.
Macy Beinborn contributed with 16 points of her own, including three triples, and six rebounds. Elsewhere,
Gabriela Loiz scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards while
Lauren Hall led the Vikings' effort on the glass with eight rebounds.
Kate Christian led Carroll with 16 points while Olivia Rangel had 13. Elizabeth Behrndt led the Pioneers on the glass with five rebounds.
The Augustana women will hit the road for their next contest when they travel to Elmhurst on Wednesday, Feb. 2 for a 7:00 P.M. tip.
