Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana men's volleyball team was defeated Friday night at home by the visiting MSOE Raiders, falling by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-15) inside the Carver Center.
It was an evenly-matched start to the opening set with both teams trading points all the way up to a 23-23 score. MSOE tallied the final two points of the frame to take a 1-0 lead in the match following a kill and block. The Vikings held the largest lead of the game at 5-2, but once the Raiders tied it at seven, neither team saw a lead larger than two the rest of the way. The opening set saw 15 ties, but just three lead changes.
The Raiders took a sizable lead in set two after scoring nine of the first ten points. The visitors held onto a similar margin for a good portion of the remainder of the frame, pushing their advantage to as many as 12 on multiple occasions. The Vikings enjoyed a late 4-0 run to inch closer, but were unable to pose a serious comeback threat as MSOE took game two by a score of 25-15 to grab a 2-0 advantage in the match.
MSOE jumped out to another fast start in the third, doubling up Augie at 14-7 before the Vikings cut it to five later on, which proved to be the smallest the margin would get the rest of the way. The Raiders closed the set on a 10-5 to earn a 25-15 win and take the match by a final of 3-0.
Aiden Bond and
Aidan Bolen led the offensive attack for the Vikings, finishing with six kills apiece.
Matthew Degnan tallied 12 assists, while
Max Sellers had nine digs.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 0-2 overall. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 1 when they hit the road to take on St. Ambrose. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Davenport, Iowa.
