ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team (7-10, 1-7) hosted CCIW foe Millikin (14-4, 8-1) for a conference tilt this evening. The current second-place team in the CCIW rode an early lead to victory over the Vikings.
Millikin exploded out to an early lead in the first quarter. Augustana was forced to burn an early timeout after Aubrey Staton buried a three to give the Big Blue an 11-0 lead. The Vikings finally got on the board via two
Gabriela Loiz free throws but were in a deep 25-9 hole after the opening period.
Augustana got things turned around over the next three quarters outscoring Millikin 60-53 the rest of the way. The Vikings got rolling in the fourth quarter, trimming the lead to as little as six points, but could not a lead of their own.
Four Augustana players finished in double figures.
Macy Beinborn led the way for Augie with 24 points with six made three-pointers in ten attempts.
Gabriela Loiz added 13 points while
Lauren Hall scored 10 points and snagged a game-high 14 rebounds.
Kylie Jozwik also had an efficient night off the bench with 12 points in just 15 minutes, all of which from beyond the arc.
Bailey Coffman and Aubrey Staton led the Big Blue with 18 points apiece. Elyce Knudsen and Jordan Hildebrand also had 13.
The Vikings will be away from home for their next contest when they travel to Waukesha to take on the Carroll Pioneers on Monday, Jan. 24.
