ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will start the second time through the CCIW on Saturday when they host the Millikin Big Blue from inside the Carver Center.
The Vikings were defeated in their previous contest by No. 12 Elmhurst on Wednesday, falling at home by a score of 86-66. Augie played Elmhurst relatively even in the second half, but the Bluejays posted a plus-14 margin at halftime to help maintain the double-digit advantage. A total of ten Vikings scored in the game, with three coming in double figures.
Dan Carr led a balanced scoring output with 12 points to go with 13 rebounds.
Matt Hanushewsky and
Tyler Knuth each added ten points apiece, while
Matt Hawkins tallied nine on 50 percent shooting. Augie shot 41 percent in the game and 25 percent from behind the arc. Elmhurst finished the game 44 percent from the field, but attempted 16 more shots than Augustana. They finished the contest with 54 points in the paint and 17 off of second chance efforts.
Millkin enters Saturday fresh off a 76-51 at home over No. 14 Wheaton. The Big Blue sit at 10-7 on the year and 5-3 in the CCIW. They have reached the ten-win mark for the first time in three seasons and are currently riding a two-game winning streak. Millikin is 4-4 away from home this season. The Big Blue defeated the Vikings 70-45 in each team's CCIW openers earlier this year. The last time these two teams faced off in Rock Island was February 5, 2021, resulting in a 98-82 victory for Augie.Â
