ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team will begin their 2022 campaign on Saturday, January 15 when they host the Clarke Pride for each team's season opener.
The Vikings are coming off an abbreviated season that saw mainly CCIW opponents and will kick off a much busier non-conference slate in 2022 on Saturday with Clarke. Augustana finished the 2021 season with a 9-7 record and a tie for second place in the CCIW. The Vikings were defeated in the conference tournament by eventual national champion Carthage to close out last year.
Luis Zavala returns for Augie this season after finishing fourth on the team in kills and second in blocks a season ago.
Clarke ended their 2021 campaign with a 5-18 record at the NAIA level. Michael Jenkins, the team's leader in kills last season, returns for the Pride after tallying 262 in 2021. Nick Palatine and Montez Thompson also return after finishing with a team-best in digs and blocks, respectively.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. All spectators must adhere to the
Augustana COVID-19 spectator policy.
