ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will look to bounce back following their season-opening loss on Wednesday as they welcome in the Rockford Regents on Saturday for their first home contest of the 2021 season.
The Vikings fell on the road to the Simpson Storm back on September 1st by a score of 6-1 out in Indianola, Iowa. Simpson rushed out to a quick lead eight minutes in, connecting on the game's first goal and eventually adding two more before heading into the halftime break with a 3-0 advantage. Augustana managed to get on the scoreboard early in the second half on a goal from
Sebastian Gabrielson, but it was not enough as the home team added three more to close it out with a five-goal differential in their favor.
Saturday will mark the first ever meeting in the modern era between the two schools. The Regents enter the contest with a 1-0 record following a 3-0 shutout victory over Ripon on Thursday. Like most schools, Rockford participated in only scrimmages during the 2020 season. They ended the 2019 season with a 6-13-1 record and were 3-8 in the NACC that season.
