ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will officially begin CCIW play on Wednesday as they hit the road to take on the Wheaton Thunder in their first conference contest of the season.
Since 2013, the Vikings are winless against the Thunder, going 0-6-1 during that span. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in their last meeting in 2019, which snapped a losing streak for Augie against Wheaton. The Thunder have held the Vikings without a goal in their last six matchups.
Wheaton enters Wednesday night with a 5-1 record overall. Five of their six games on the season have been played at home, where they showcase a 4-1 mark. The Thunder will also be playing in their first conference contest of the season on Wednesday after a successful non-conference slate. They currently hold a two-game winning streak, with their most recent a 7-0 victory over Alma. Wheaton ended their last full season in 2019 with a 10-4-4 record and a 3-2-3 mark in CCIW play.
Augustana will be looking to make it three consecutive wins after defeating Knox and Monmouth in their previous two games. Their last scheduled contest on Saturday, September 25th against Carroll was postponed due to travel issues within the Pioneers program. Augie sits at 4-2 overall and 1-2 on the road this season.
