GRINNELL, Iowa – The Augie women's volleyball team (3-4) took on a pair of non-CCIW foes tonight in a road triangular. The Vikings faced off against the Loras College Duhawks and the hosts, the Grinnell College Pioneers.
In the first match of the evening, Augustana suffered a 3-1 defeat to Loras. The Vikings jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a 25-13 first set. In the following three sets, Loras completed the victory via 25-23, 25-15, and 27-25 wins.
Brook Fieldman and
Emily Schipper each notched double-digit kills with 14 and 13, respectively.
Olivia Doak has a great game with 23 total assists. On defense,
Ja'Nya Davis led the effort on the net with five blocks.
Grace Vranicar was excellent again on the back end with 17 digs, while Fieldman recorded 10.
Game two went the way of the hosts as Grinnell swept the Vikings 3-0. The first set between the Pioneers and Vikings went to overtime as the Pioneers won 26-24. The second stanza was nearly just as competitive, but a Rachel Woock serving ace ended things 25-21 in favor of Grinnell. Finally, the Pioneers made quicker work of Augie in the third set, 25-16.
Schipper had another solid game to end the night with 12 more kills. Doak posted another 19 assists and added 15 digs against Grinnell.
The Vikings will be back in action for a mid-week contest at Monmouth College on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 P.M.
