Box Score INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team fell in their season-opener Wednesday night on the road, defeated by the Simpson College Storm by a score of 6-1 from inside Buxton Stadium.
Simpson rushed out to a quick lead eight minutes in, connecting on the game's first goal and eventually adding two more before heading into the halftime break with a 3-0 advantage. The Storm outshot the Vikings 8-2 in the first 45 minutes of action.
Nearly nine minutes into the second half, Simpson added another to stretch their lead to four. The Vikings answered quickly in the 60th minute with a goal from
Sebastian Gabrielson to cut the deficit back to three, but the Storm controlled the remainder of the half, pushing two more scores into the net to get to the final result of 6-1 in their favor. Simpson finished the contest outshooting Augustana 15-7, with seven of their 15 strikes coming on target. Augie had just the one shot on goal that resulted in their lone score.

Jarrett Baumgartner and
Tyler Markell both tallied two shots apiece off of the bench to lead the team in that category.
With the loss, the Vikings drop to 0-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 4th when they welcome in Rockford for their home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from inside Thorson-Lucken Field.
