ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will kick off the 2021 season on Wednesday on the road as they are set to take on the Simpson College Storm in their first official contest in over two years.
The Vikings did not compete in a game last season due to COVID-19, but instead saw seven scrimmages during the spring semester. Augie ended their last full year in 2019 with a 6-7-2 record overall and 3-4-1 mark in CCIW play. Augustana and Simpson played in the season-opener in 2019, with the Storm taking a 2-0 victory at Thorsen-Lucken Field. The Storm played in seven games in 2020, ending their abbreviated season with a 3-2-2 record. In 2019, Simpson posted a final record of 16-4-2.
Dating back to 2013, the two teams have met seven times, with Simpson holding a 4-2-1 record against Augustana over that span. The Storm currently boast a two-game winning streak in the series and have been victorious in four of the last five matchups. Outside of 2020, this will be the third straight season the Vikings have opened their season with the Storm.

Head coach
Mick Regan returns for his seventh season to lead the Vikings men's soccer program. He's coming off his highest win total with the program in 2019 and looks forward to getting back on the field after what seemed like a long time away.
"I am looking forward to kicking off our season at Simpson," Regan said. "The lads have put in a lot of hard work during preseason. We have many new faces mixed in with some experienced players so it will be an exciting group to watch."
The Vikings and Storm are scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
