DECATUR, Ill. — Two-time CCIW Pitcher of the Year Amanda Osterhus proved to be too much for Augustana Saturday afternoon, firing a no-hitter to eliminate the Vikings from the CCIW Tournament by a score of 6-0. Coach
Kris Kistler's club finishes the year with a record of 14-27. The Pioneers move on with a mark of 22-20.
Augustana's best threat came in the top of the second, when Osterhus walked the bases full. However, she got a strike out and induced a comebacker to escape unscathed.
All of the runs in the contest came in the top of the third. Maria Mundt led off with an infield hit against Viking starter
Erin Smith (Columbine HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.). A walk and bunt single followed, with the first run scoring on a throwing error. Kaylee Learman's fielder's choice drove in a run to make it 2-0 and Allyssa Demma's RBI double to right made it 3-0.
Carroll added another run on an Augustana error before sophomore
Amanda Page (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) came on to relieve Smith. Abby Wimmer greeted her with a two-run double and the Pioneers led 6-0 after 2½.
Osterhus allowed just two more baserunners, a one-out walk to
Sydney Ohrtmann (Freeport HS, Rockford, Ill.) in the fourth and a two-out base-on-balls to
Claire Weeks (Dundee-Crown HS, Sleepy Hollow, Ill.) in the sixth. She set the Vikings down in order in the seventh to complete the no-hitter.
Smith (4-9) went 2 1/3 innings and took the loss. Osterhus walked five and fanned nine and improved to 12-7 with the win. Page was a bright spot for Augustana. She scattered five hits in four scoreless innings, walking none and striking out one.
