ROCK ISLAND, Ill.. – Carroll rode an Amanda Osterhus no-hitter to a 7-1 win in the opener Saturday and scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take the nightcap 3-2 and complete a doubleheader sweep of Augustana at Carver Field. The Vikings dropped to 3-15 on the year and 0-10 in the CCIW, while Carroll moved to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
 
CARROLL 7, AUGUSTANA 1
 
Carroll took the lead in game one with three runs off freshman Nadia Ranieri (Riverside-Brookfield HS, North Riverside, Ill.) in the top of the second. Emily Green singled in the first one and later scored on a fielder's choice grounder.
 
Lauren Harshbarger's RBI single made it 4-0 in the third.
 
A leadoff walk led to Augustana's only run in the bottom of the third. Nichole Nash's (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) grounder to second plated pinch-runner Josie Smith (St. Francis HS, Wheaton, Ill.).
 
The Pioneers added three in the fifth and Osterhus pitched around three walks in the fifth and sixth before setting the Vikings down in order in the seventh to finish off the no-hitter. She walked five and fanned nine and improved to 4-2 with the win.
 
Ranieri (2-4) went the distance for Augustana, scattering eight hits. Just one of the seven runs she allowed was earned.
 
CARROLL 3, AUGUSTANA 2
 
The Vikings grabbed the lead in the top of the third of the nightcap. Nash touched Carroll starter Grace Bradley for a leadoff double down the left field line. She moved to third on Ashley Dehmlow's (McHenry West HS, Spring Grove, Ill.) fly to right and scored on Ranieri's groundout to second.
 
After Augustana left the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, the Pioneers tied it with a run off Viking starter Erin Smith (Columbine HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) in the bottom half. Sierra Grubor led off with a bunt single, moved to third on Allyssa Demma's single to right and scored on an Augustana error.
 
Maria Mundt led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to right and Mathena Higgins and Grubor followed with infield hits to load the bases. Kaylee Learman then delivered a two-run double to left to put Carroll on top 3-1. Smith coaxed a fielder's choice grounder and fanned the final two batters to escape further damage.
 
Dehmlow touched reliever Breanna Roberts for a leadoff double in the top of the seventh and scored on a two-out single to center by freshman Morgan Bielfeldt (St. Viator HS, Chicago, Ill.). However, Roberts got Tristan Bautista (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) to line to first to end the game.
 
Roberts went 3 2/3 innings and got her first win in four decisions. Smith went the distance, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned). She walked one and struck out five and fell to 1-5 on the year.
 
Dehmlow had a pair of hits for the Vikings.
 
Augustana hosts Illinois Wesleyan for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m.
