DECATUR, Ill. – Fielding a lineup that featured two sophomores and two freshmen, Coach
Tom Lawrence's Augustana squad placed third of five teams this weekend at Millikin's Take Back the Night Challenge at South Side Country Club. The Vikings will be in action next at the CCIW Championships at Oak Brook Country Club in Oak Brook, Illinois on April 22-24.
Two freshman led the way at Millikin.
Avery Frick (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) shot 84-80—164 for the weekend to finish 11th in a field of 40 golfers. Classmate
Amanda Gravelle (Normal Community HS, Bloomington, Ill.) (84-81—165) was 12th, one stroke back.
Sophomores
Flynn Hartigan (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) and
Grace Loverde (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthron Woods, Ill.) were next. Hartigan shot 91-83—174 to place 20th, one stroke ahead of Loverde's 21st-place 91-84—175. Junior
Brooke Dean (Olympia HS, Atlanta, Ill.) rounded out Lawrence's contingent with a 105-97—202 for the weekend to tie for 30th.
Rose-Hulman (317-298—615), which had both medalist Precious Saelee (75-73—148) and runner-up Svarnika Bommakanti (81-70—151) claimed the team title by 47 strokes over second-place St. Scholastica (344-318—662).
Augustana shot 350-328—678 for the tournament to take third, followed by the host Big Blue (353-341—694) and North Central (393-384—777).
