ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.), one of eight players honored on Senior Day Saturday, scored seven goals to lead Augustana to a 17-3 win over Carroll at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings improved to 6-4 on the year and 2-2 in the league, while the Pioneers dropped to 0-3 overall and in the conference.
Matt Pierson (Montini Catholic HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) got Augustana on the board first four minutes in before Moore scored the next three Viking goals off respective assists from
Sam Shaver (Ketle Moraine HS, Delafield, Wis.),
Jack Preston (Morton HS, Morton, Ill.) and
William Reece (Hudson HS, Hudson, Wis.). The first two of his goals gave Coach
Dan Torie's club a 3-0 lead after one quarter.
Five different players, including Pierson, Moore, Shaver and
Steve Robertson (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) tallied Augustana's next five goals to close out the first half.
Mark Teschke (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) logged assists on three of them.
Matthew Lampasona's (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) goal 1:32 before halftime made it 9-0 and the Vikings took that advantage to the break.
Moore added three more goals, along with a pair of assists, in the third quarter. Reece added two scores and
John Calabrese (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.)—who won all 15 of his faceoffs on the day—another. The margin eventually reached 16-0 on a goal by
Robert Kibble (Pacific Ridge HS, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.).
Cordell McNamara scored twice as Carroll outscored Augustana 3-1 in the final period. Teschke assisted Calabrese on the Vikings' last goal.
Moore's seven goals equaled the third-best single-game total in program history and his nine points rank fourth all-time. In addition to his 15-for-15 faceoff performance, Calabrese snared 13 ground balls, just two away from his own school record. Teschke finished with four assists, which also rank in Augustana's top ten for a single game.
Torie rotated three goalies. Starter
Cameron Duffy (Glenbrook South HS, Glenview, Ill.) made two saves before leaving after one quarter.
Gus Magnusson (Mahtomedi HS, Stillwater, Minn.) kept the Pioneers off the board for 24 minutes and recorded three saves and
Erik Singdahlsen (Legend HS, Parker, Colo.) finished up, making two saves in 21 minutes of action.
Along with Moore, seniors recognized on Saturday included Lampasona, Robertson, Reece, Preston,
Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.),
Adam Fisher (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and
Pierceson Mapes (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.).
The Vikings travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 24 to take on Carthage, with opening faceoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
