WHITEWATER, Wis. – Augustana traveled to UW-Whitewater Saturday for a doubleheader originally scheduled for Carver Field. The Warhawks defeated the Vikings by scores of 5-0 and 5-1. Coach
Kris Kistler's club fell to 2-2 on the season, while the hosts improved to 3-3. Kistler's crew is scheduled to face Aurora in a road twin bill on Sunday, March 14.
UW-WHITEWATER 5, AUGUSTANA 0
Whitewater hurlers Rhiann Dick and Marissa Adam combined to shut Augustana out on six hits in the opener. Dick pitched around
Molly Wrenn's (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) two-out double and a walk in the first and her teammates put up three runs in the bottom half off Viking starter
Erin Smith (Columbine HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.). Nikki Mikosz doubled in the game's first two runs and Kennedy Cox drove in another with a groundout.
After Augustana left the bases loaded in the top of the second, the Warhawks made it 5-0 on Cox's two-run double in the bottom of the third.
The Vikings threatened in the sixth when Wrenn drew a leadoff walk and
Nichole Nash (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) and
Jennifer Sears (Marist HS, New Lenox, Ill.) followed with singles. However, Wrenn was cut down at the plate trying to score on Sears' hit. After Dick walked
Sydney Ohrtmann to load the bases, Adam came out of the pen and retired the next two batters to keep Augustana off the board. She pitched around a leadoff single in the seventh to close things out for the save.
Smith (1-1) gave up five hits and three earned runs in three innings and took the loss.
Ashley Dehmlow (McHenry West HS, Spring Grove, Ill.) came on to start the fourth and threw three innings of one-hit, scoreless relief. Dick (1-2) was the winner.

Whitewater jumped on top in the nightcap with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Sam Lattner touch Augustana starter
Nadia Ranieri (Riverside-Brookfield HS, North Riverside, Ill.) for a leadoff single and Delaney Becker followed with a homer to center.
Ranieri helped her own cause with an RBI double in the fourth. Dehmlow, who had walked, scored on the play to make it 2-1 Warhawks.
The hosts broke things open with three in the fifth. Becker made it 3-1 with a one-out solo blast and Kaleigh O'Brien added a two-run double later in the frame.
Kate Cleveland, who had come on in relief of UWW starter Mallory Hollatz to close out the fourth, stranded a pair of Vikings in the fifth and one in the sixth before throwing a 1-2-3 ninth. She was credited with the win, moving to 2-1 on the year.
Ranieri fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss. She went five innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs, and also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Nash had two hits as well.
