MONTGOMERY, Ill. – Aurora zipped out to a fast start against C.J. Holder's Augustana team and never looked back on Saturday, February 20 in the season opener for both teams in a non-conference women's lacrosse match played in Montgomery, Illinois. The Spartans eventually scored a 17-3 victory over the Vikings after rolling out to a 12-0 lead at halftime.
Aurora tallied the first 14 goals of the game before senior
Sandra Pielechaty (Taft HS, Chicago, Ill.) broke the shutout at the 22:10 mark of the second half. Junior
Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) added a goal (11:28) and sophomore
Claire Kim (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) also got in the scoring act (3:28) for the Vikings.
Aurora dominated most statistical categories as the Spartans outshot the Vikings 28-15, held a 16-7 advantage in ground balls and had 17 of 22 clears. Augustana did win 15 of 22 draw controls with Cecilio grabbing nine of those.
Augustana will be in action again on Wednesday, February 24 against Cornell at 4:00 p.m. at Thorsen-Lucken Field.
