Men's basketball hosts Carthage in first home CCIW contest

The Vikings are undefeated this year in the Carver Center

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will return home on Saturday, December 11 to host the Carthage Firebirds in their first CCIW contest from inside the Carver Center.

The Vikings were defeated in their conference opener last Saturday at Millikin by a score of 70-45. Carter Duwa led the Vikings with 13 points in his return on 4-10 shooting. He was the lone Augustana player in double figures as the team shot just 31 percent compared to Millikin's 54 percent mark. Matt Hawkins added seven off of the bench. Dan Carr continues to average a double double for Augie this year at 15 points and 12 rebounds per outing.
 
Carthage enters Saturday's matchup following a 71-66 home loss to North Park on Wednesday. The Firebirds currently sit at 4-4 on the season, but have dropped three straight and sit 0-3 in CCIW play. The team fell in their league opener to No. 5 Wheaton by just one point before dropping contests to North Central and North Park. Fillip Bulatovic led Carthage in their last game, posting 23 points and eight rebounds. He is averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists on the year. The Firebirds and Vikings have one common opponent this season in UW-Oshkosh. Carthage fell to UWO by a score of 81-66 back on November 20. The Firebirds are averaging 87.5 points per game this season.

Augustana leads the all-time series between the two 122-57. The Vikings have won the last five meetings, including a 109-107 triple overtime thriller in their most recent last season. Three of Augie's wins over the current five-game win streak have been by two points or less. Six of the last nine games played in the series have been decided by single digits.
