PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Augustana women's basketball (5-5, 0-2) had a tough outing tonight on the road at UW-Platteville (8-2, 2-0). The Pioneers took advantage of a poor second-half performance by Augustana to pull away and reach the final 63-44 margin.
The game started much more competitively than it finished. Augustana outscored Platteville 15-14 in the first quarter and matched the Pioneers' balanced attack. UW-Platteville narrowly edged the Vikings in the second period to equalize the score at 30 going into the half.
One the midway break ended, however, the Vikings' productivity decreased. Augie was held to just four total points in the third quarter and ten in the fourth, which proved too wide a margin to bounce back from.
Only five Viking players scored in Tuesday night's contest.
Gabriela Loiz returned to her offensive form for Augie with a team-high 14 points.
Lauren Hall added 10 points for Vikings to go along with 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Macy Beinborn and
Emma Berg each notched nine points while
Kylie Jozwik chipped in two.
UW-Platteville's leading scorer Maiah Domask reached her average with 19 points to lead the Pioneers. Domask also recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The Augie women will be back on the hardwood this weekend when they host their Viking counterparts from North Park for a CCIW matchup on Sunday, Dec. 19.
