ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team (7-5, 1-2) notched a comfortable victory over the Monmouth Fighting Scots (6-3, 3-0) this evening.
 
After a brief holiday break, the Vikings returned to the gym in impressive fashion. Augustana jumped out to an 18-point lead after one period and led the Scots 28-10. The Viking effort was nearly mirrored in the second quarter, 23-11, as Augie roared into halftime with a 51-21 advantage.
 
Monmouth started playing with a rhythm in the second half, though, and began to challenge the Vikings. Augie outscored the Scots by just two points in the third and Monmouth won the fourth quarter by a 17-10 margin. The second half performance by the Fighting Scots was not nearly enough, though, as the Vikings cruised to the victory while being able to empty their bench and play the entire active roster.
 
The Vikings had four players in double-figures led by Lauren Hall's 19 points. Macy Beinborn scored 15 of her own while making three out of five three-point attempts. Gabriela Loiz added 14 points and Emma Berg chipped in with 10. Hall, plus Hannah Simmer, led the Vikings on the glass with six rebounds. Augustana's offense was also led by seven players with multiple assists.
 
Monmouth was paced by Kaitlyn Osmulski's 16 points followed by Josie Morgan's 14. Zoie Wall and Jordan Kintigh were aggressive rebounders with 9 boards and 8 boards, collectively.
 
Augustana will be back on the court after the New Year holiday when the Vikings travel to North Central. The first CCIW contest of 2022 will tip-off at 7 P.M. on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in Naperville.
