ROCK ISLAND, Ill -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will head back out on the road this weekend for a pair of games in the state of Michigan, first taking on the Calvin Knights on Friday, November 19, followed by a game against the Alma Scots on Saturday.
The Vikings are coming off a well-fought 79-73 overtime victory of the St. Mary's (Minn.) Cardinals on Tuesday. The game was highlighted by the defensive play both ways as shooting struggles clouded each team for a majority of the contest. The Vikings shot 39 percent for the game and 24 percent from three, but held the Cardinals to a similar mark shooting the ball as the visitors finished 37 percent overall and 20 percent from downtown. St. Mary's converted just 57.7 percent of their 26 free throw attempts.
Dan Carr led the Vikings with a monster double-double at 21 points and 17 rebounds.
Luke Johnson, who scored the game-tying layup with 11 seconds left in regulation, had 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.
Calvin enters Friday's matchup with a 1-0 record. The Knights defeated Illinois Tech back on November 6 by a score of 85-54. The team had four players hit double figures in scoring, led by 19 from Uchenna Egekeze. Calvin also won an exhibition contest against Grace Christian with a final of 83-56 back on November 9. The Knights have not played since then, making Friday's game against Augie their first in ten days. Calvin finished the abbreviated 2020 season with an 8-4 record and were 15-11 in their last full season back in 2019.
Outside of 2020-21, the two teams have played every season since 2016. The Vikings hold an all-time record of 4-0 vs. the Knights, winning all four of those contests during that span. Their last meeting came in November 2019, resulting in a home 70-67 victory for Augustana.
Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST.

On Saturday, the Vikings will head to Alma to take on the Scots for their second matchup of the weekend. Alma currently sports a 1-1 record and will take on fellow CCIW school Illinois Wesleyan on Friday before hosting Augustana the following day. The Scots defeated Bluffton in their season opener before falling to Oberlin in their most recent outing. The team finished 2-12 last season and 13-13 back in 2019.
Like Calvin, the Vikings have played Alma each of the last four seasons, excluding 2020-21. Augustana holds a 4-0 record all-time and won their previous meeting 74-67 at home.
