CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Augustana women's basketball improved to 2-0 on the season tonight with a convincing win over the Central College Dutch (0-1).
The Vikings and Dutch played an evenly contested battle through three quarters before Augie's defense stifled Central in the fourth quarter. Augustana posted 21 points in the opening period and Central countered with 23 of their own in the second. Both squads hung 18 points on the board in the third. Down the stretch, Augustana held Central to just three total points in the fourth quarter to win by a 16-point margin.
Five Augie women finished in double figures in scoring led by
Gabriela Loiz' 17.
Hannah Simmer and
Linnea Johansen each posted 11 points while
Lauren Hall and
Macy Beinborn scored 10 apiece. Hall capped of her second double-double in as many games with a game-high 13 rebounds and distributed the ball well with six assists.
Central was led by Kelsea Hurley with 12 points and eight boards followed by Allison Van Gorp with seven points and seven assists.
The Vikings conclude their two-game road swing in Cedar Rapids tomorrow against Coe at 4:00 P.M.
