ROCK ISLAND, Ill -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will begin the 2021-22 home slate on Friday, November 12 when they welcome in the No. 16 ranked Dubuque Spartans in their second of two straight games against ranked opponents to start the new season.

The Vikings were defeated 90-70 on the road last Saturday at No. 17 ranked UW-Oshkosh. The Titans began the game with an 11-0 advantage, eventually taking that 11-point lead into halftime. Augie cut the margin to single digits on multiple occasions, but the Titans were too much as a 16-2 second-half run helped them close out the game. Dan Carr scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half and grabbed 14 rebounds for the contest. Matt Hawkins joined Carr in double figures, ending with 14 points on 5-7 shooting in his collegiate debut. Nate Ortiz added 10 points.

Dubuque enters Saturday with a 1-0 record on the young season after defeating the Blackburn Beavers at home on Tuesday by a score of 68-52. The Spartans led by just two at halftime but posted a plus-14 margin in the final 20 minutes. The team was fueled by Peter Ragen, who scored 19 points on 6-16 shooting. Two others in Dylan Anderson and Josh Hammer also cracked double figures with 10 points apiece. The Spartans ended the 2020-21 abbreviated season with a perfect 14-0 record and an ARC championship.

This will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools. Augustana has won eight of ten matchups over Dubuque. Their first-ever meeting came back during the 1930-31 season, a 41-18 victory for the Vikings. Their most recent contest was nearly 30 years ago in 1992, resulting in a 77-51 Augie victory.

Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
