ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Viking women's soccer team will continue their season this weekend with a road contest at Carthage. The Firebirds will host Augie tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 9, at 7:00 P.M.
Augustana enters the weekend at 5-5 overall and 2-2 in CCIW play and has gone an even .500 in their last four games. Carthage is currently 3-7 overall and 1-1 in league games while dropping their last two games to UW-Stevens Point and North Central.
Morgan Verbeten leads Carthage in points with nine, three more than Carthage's second-highest scorer Amelia Price. Verbeten leads the Firebirds with 23 shots and 15 on target while also scoring the most goals this season with four. Grace Robinson, Erin Otto, and Price are also significant threats for Carthage with a combined 40 shots.
In goal, Sara Lieffrig has gone 3-7 for Carthage. Lieffrig has started ten games this season and recorded 55 total saves and a .671 save percentage.
Augustana and Carthage have had a relatively even history. The Vikings lead the all-time series 4-2-1 and were victorious in the most recent match in 2019. The Firebirds last defeated Augie in 2017 in Kenosha.
