ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, October 9th when they hit the road to take on the Carthage Firebirds.
Carthage is currently receiving votes in the latest
United Soccer Coaches Top 25 as they hold a 6-4-2 record this season. They have spent a good portion of the season ranked in the top 25, with their most recent standing at No. 16 before dropping out in this week's edition. The Firebirds are winless in their last four games, going 0-3-1 over that span and are coming off a 1-0 loss to No. 20 Chicago last time out. They sit at 0-2-1 in CCIW play.
The Vikings are looking to bounce back following a 5-2 defeat on Wednesday to undefeated North Central at home. The team fell behind early, but were able to push two across on the Cardinals, who have not allowed two or more all season through 14 contests. Augustana saw penalty kick scores from
Jarrett Baumgartner and
Sebastian Gabrielson.
The Firebirds have won five of the last seven meetings over the Vikings, but their most recent matchup went in favor of Augustana by way of a double-overtime victory in Kenosha. Both of Augie's wins since 2013 against Carthage have come in overtime. The Firebirds lead the all-time series over the Vikings 12-11-2.
