NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team jumped back into CCIW action on Sunday, falling to the undefeated North Central Cardinals on the road by a score of 9-0.
The Cardinals made it a perfect 3/3 in doubles to jump out to the 3-0 advantage heading into singles. The top Vikings duo of
Caitlyn Hanulikova and
Lily Schoeck battled tough against North Central's top lineup, but fell 8-2. The Cardinals won the other two doubles matches with final scores of 8-0 and 8-1.
In singles, Augie put battled tough across the board, taking a few sets into tiebreakers that eventually went in favor of North Central. Schoeck put up a good fight in the top spot, ultimately falling 6-3, 7-6 to her opponent.
Michaela Magee also challenged North Central's No. 2 singles player well, taking her to a second set into tiebreaker. North Central's Hannah Hougland, who the Vikings saw at the ITA Regionals in Michigan last weekend, held on over Magee with a score of 6-2, 7-6.
Lauren Oda brought her match into a third set at the No. 4 position after battling back from a set one defeat to even things up. Oda fell in the third set 10-3. North Central was victorious in the rest of the matchups to win 9-0 in the match.
With the loss, Augustana falls to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the CCIW. The team will be back in action on Friday, October 8th when they take on Elmhurst on the road. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Elmhurst, Ill.
