Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Vikings drop conference match, split non-league games at IWU tournament

Jaden Julius named to All-Tournament team

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Augie women's volleyball (8-20, 1-6)) took one of three contests this weekend at Illinois Wesleyan's invitational tournament. The Vikings got things started on Friday night with a loss to the host Titans and dropped their first contest on Saturday in a loss to nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point. The Vikings never gave on the weekend, though, and won the final game in a sweep over Alma.

Illinois Wesleyan (15-11, 6-1) only needed three sets to defeat Augustana on Friday night. The Titans set wins came via scores of 25-11, 28-26, and 25-21. The Vikings did their best to overcome a slow start but could not make up for early mistakes.

Jaden Julius, who earned All-Tournament recognition at the end of the weekend, led Augie in kills against IWU with six. Jenny Dunder also posted six kills and led the way with a pair of blocks. Olivia Doak and Annalise Peeterson each provided 11 assists in the invite-opening loss.

Saturday's actions began with a tall test for Augustana as the Vikings squared off against the 21st-ranked Pointers of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. UWSP played at the level of their ranking and beat Augustana 25-5, 26-24, and 25-18. Augustana was paced by Emily Schipper's nine kills and Grace Vranicar's 10 digs.

The Vikings finally put a notch in the win column with a convincing sweep of Alma College to end the trip. The Scots failed to score 20 or more points in all three sets against Augustana. Julius excelled in the final match with a match-high 11 kills followed by Caroline Hurst with 10. Doak recorded another 13 assists while Amelie Baehr-Ross added 17. Vranicar continued her reliable play with 13 digs to her credit.

Augustana will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 27 when they travel to North Central for the CCIW finale.
