Viking women look for third-consecutive win at Illinois Wesleyan

Augustana seeks eighth win of 2021 season

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Viking women's soccer will travel to Illinois Wesleyan this weekend for another CCIW contest. The match in Bloomington will mark the start of a three-game road stretch for Augustana.
 
Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend with a 5-6-1 overall record and solid 3-1 record in conference play. The Titans have won three of their last four matches including two league wins against Elmhurst and North Central.
 
The Vikings are sitting at 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the CCIW. Augie is currently riding a two-game winning streak after beating both Carthage and Coe in 1-0 matches.
 
IWU is led by the two-headed monster of Caelyn Steffens and Lauren Shanks. Steffens leads the team in points (17), shots (38), shots on goal (20), goals (6), and assists (5). Shanks is second in those same categories with 14 points, 34 shots, 19 shots on goal, five goals, and four assists.
 
Illinois Wesleyan has featured multiple goalkeepers this season. Kayla Borg has been the primary keeper with eight starts under her belt. Borg has allowed 11 goals this season and posted a .756 save percentage. Other Titan goalies include Kelly Carlson, Maria Fields, and Sarah Johnson with a combined 1-1 win-loss record.
 
The Titans lead the all-time series against Augustana by 1-8-1 margin. Augustana has dropped their three most recent matches to IWU. The Vikings last win in the series came in 2018 via a 2-0 home victory.
