Men's soccer squares off with Illinois Wesleyan in CCIW matchup

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, October 16th when they visit the Illinois Wesleyan Titans in a conference road matchup.

Illinois Wesleyan enters Saturday's meeting with a 2-7-1 overall record and 1-2 mark in conference play. They are coming off of a close 1-0 defeat to undefeated North Central in their most recent contest. The Titans are 2-2-1 in their last five outings after beginning the season 0-5. Their one conference victory this year came against Wheaton, a 3-2 triumph in overtime.

The Vikings are looking to bounce back following a 2-0 loss to Elmhurst on Wednesday. Augie saw a good deal of scoring opportunities as they posted nine shots on the night, but were unable to push one into the back of the net. Hannes Hemgren led the Vikings with a team-high three shots, followed by Jarrett Baumgartner with two, both on target. Frankie Baio snagged five saves in net for Augie. 

Augustana leads the all-time series between the two 18-13-3. but Illinois Wesleyan has won six of their last seven meetings. Their last encounter came back in 2019 in Bloomington, which resulted in a 4-1 victory for the Titans. The Vikings' last win came in 2018 at home, a 1-0 shutout at Thorson-Lucken Field.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
