Vikings go 2-3 during abbreviated 2020 season; Kathryn Hettiger earns team MVP honors
 
In what may have been the final NCAA athletic event held in the 2019-20 academic year, Augustana scored five of the game's last six goals to pull out an 11-9 win at UW-La Crosse on March 15. That lifted the Vikings' record to 2-3 on the season, which was then halted prematurely due to fears over COVID-19.
 
The season lasted barely two weeks.
 
It opened on February 29 with a 17-7 home setback to Kalamazoo. After a March 1 contest with Anderson was cancelled due to a shortage of Raven players, Coach C.J. Holder's bunch went on the road an defeated Concordia (Wis.) 11-8 on March 7. Augustana fell 13-12 in overtime to Loras at Thorson-Lucken Field on Wednesday, March 11 and then headed to Wisconsin for weekend dates with UW-River Falls and UW-La Crosse.
 
On Thursday, March 12, the NCAA announced the cancellation of all spring championship events, effectively ending the 2019-20 sports year. However, with the Vikings already in Wisconsin and all parties willing to play, the final two games took place as scheduled. Augustana fell 18-4 to River Falls on Saturday before rallying to down La Crosse on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Kathryn Hettiger (Carmel HS, Carmel, Ind.) tallied 17 goals and 19 points in the Vikings' five games, leading the team in both categories and earning team MVP honors. She was a perfect five-for-five on free position tries to tie for the national lead in that category. She also ranked second on the team in draw controls (12) and third in caused turnovers (three).
 
Other statistical leaders for Holder's crew included junior Sandra Pielechaty (Taft HS, Chicago, Ill.), whose five assists were a team high. She was also second in points (12) and third in goals (seven). Sophomore Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) led the Vikings with 22 draw controls and shared the team lead with four caused turnovers. Her 13 ground balls were tops among field players. Junior Elizabeth Cook (Minooka HS, Joliet, Ill.), who tied for the team lead with four caused turnovers, was named Augustana's Defensive Player of the Year. Freshman Cassidy Petrie (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.), who finished second on the team with 10 goals, collected Newcomer of the Year honors. Her six free position goals were a team best.
 
Junior goalie Courtney Veitch (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) led the Vikings with 20 ground balls and increased her career average to 2.70 per game, a school record. Her average of 12.00 saves per game ranked 23rd in the nation and was on pace to break the school single-season record. She played every minute in goal and finished 2-3 with a .480 save percentage and a goals against average of 12.87.
 
Seniors Lauren Amella (Whitney Young HS, Chicago, Ill.) (two goals, three assists) and Juliette Camara (Spoon River Valley HS, Martel, France) (two caused turnovers) were the respective winners of the team's "Head and Heart" and "Hustle Hero" awards.
