RIVER FALLS, Wis.— In the penultimate event before Augustana suspends its athletic programs due to concerns over COVID-19, the Viking women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-4 setback Saturday to Wisconsin-River Falls at Ramer Field. The host Falcons improved to 3-1 on the season. Coach C.J. Holder's 1-3 squad will play Augustana's final athletic contest for at least two weeks on Sunday, March 15 at Wisconsin-La Crosse. First draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Viking Kathryn Hettiger (Carmel HS, Carmel, Ind.) controlled the opening draw Saturday, but an eventual free-position opportunity came up empty and River Falls countered quickly. Josie Johnson gave the Falcons the lead with an unassisted goal at 28:02 of the first half. She scored again two minutes later and by the midway point of the first half, UWRF's advantage had grown to 6-0.

Gina Jablonski's second goal of the afternoon made it 7-0 before freshman Cassidy Petrie (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored off a free-position attempt to stem the tide temporarily. The Falcons tallied the next three scores before another Petrie free-position goal 1:19 before halftime made it 10-2 at intermission.

Cassandra Hubble scored twice in the first three minutes of the second half and the Falcons added two more goals to extend the margin to 14-2. Hettiger and Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) scored the final two Viking goals. Sam Hasbrouck's tally in the last minute accounted for the final.

Petire's two goals led Augustana and Sandra Pielechaty (Taft HS, Chicago, Ill.) dealt out the team's only assist. Jablonski and Emily Herdine each finished with four goals for River Falls, while Johnson and Emma Kohlbeck added three apiece.

Junior Courtney Veitch (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) recorded 12 saves in goal, while two Falcon goalies stopped two shots each.

The hosts finished with advantages of 41-11 in shots, 30-8 in shots on goal and 21-11 in ground balls. The Vikings committed 27 turnovers to 17 for UWRF.
