ROCK ISLAND, Ill.— It took just 59 minutes Wednesday for Augustana to roll to a straight-set victory over Greenville at Carver Center. Coach Mike Ducey's club improved to 12-9 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW, while the Panthers fell to 1-15 and 0-6, respectively.

The Vikings claimed the first seven points of the match and never looked back. A Jarod Hesse (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) kill extended the lead to 19-5 and set point in a 25-10 Augustana win came on a kill by sophomore Luis Zavala (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.).

With the exception of a 2-2 tie, the hosts led the entire way in game two as well. A Jason Szara (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) kill gave the Vikings the lead for good and sparked a 6-0 run that stretched the advantage to 8-2. A Gary Dodovich (St. Benedict HS, Chicago, Ill.) kill eventually finished off a 25-13 Augustana win.

Greenville took its only lead of the night at 5-4 in game three, but junior Justin Murphy (Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.) had two kills as the Vikings answered with five straight points to go up 9-5. Another Murphy kill extended the lead to its largest of the set at 22-13 and a Hesse kill delivered match point in a 25-18 Augustana win.

Zavala finished with 10 kills and Hesse and Szara added eight apiece. Junior Ryan Hirschel (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) had a match-best 23 assists and Brett Kliegl (Neuqua Valley HS, Bolingbrook, Ill.) had a match-high 12 digs.

George Black led the Panthers with 11 kills.

The Vikings will be in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 14 to take on 12th-ranked Carthage at 3:00 p.m.
