Junior Trever Moore scored four goals
Saturday, but Augustana dropped a 17-11
decision to Albion in Beverly Hills,
Michigan.
BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – Albion jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter Saturday and went on to defeat Augustana 17-11. The Vikings dropped to 0-2 on the year, while the Britons improved to 2-0.
Jacob Swift scored twice in the opening period to help stake Albion to that 4-0 advantage.
Swift's third goal of the game made it 5-0 early in the second, but
Steve Robertson (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) got Augustana on the board nine seconds later off an assist from
John Calabrese (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.). Shane Forsyth's
(Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) goal trimmed the deficit to three, but Albion answered with three straight t go up 8-2. Each team scored twice more before
Jack Preston's (Morton HS, Morton, Ill.) man-up goal drew the Vikings to within 10-5 heading to halftime.
The Britons opened the third quarter with a pair of goals and Augustana responded with two of its own before Jace Conley's tally gave Albion a 13-7 lead.
Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored on a man advantage to end the third-quarter and then opened the fourth with a goal that got the Vikings to within 13-9. When Calabrese found the net with 10:07 to play, Augustana was as close as it had been (13-10) since midway through the second quarter. However, three straight Sam Puzevic goals put the contest out of reach at 16-10. Moore scored his fourth of the game before another Puzevic tally accounted for the final.
Moore's four goals led the Vikings. Three players snared three ground balls apiece and
Matthew Jarzynski (Detroit Catholic Central HS, Northville, Mich.) had a pair of caused turnovers.
Tommy Angelos (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) went the first half in goal, making six saves and taking the loss.
Cameron Duffy (Glenbrook South HS, Glenview, Ill.) finished up.
Puzevic led Albion with a half-dozen goals. Fernando Robison won 25 of 30 faceoffs and goalie Jack Gogonis made nine saves.
Shots were even at 40 each, although the Britons put 30 on goal to 23 for Augustana. Albion had a 48-20 advantage in ground balls and won 26 of 31 faceoffs. The Vikings committed 17 turnovers to 28 for Albion.
Coach
Dan Torie's club will play its 2020 season opener on Saturday, February 22, when Aurora visits Thorson-Lucken Field. Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
