ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Beloit by a score of 3-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings improved to 1-2-1 on the year, while the Buccaneers fell to 1-5-1. Coach

Junior
Bennett Tomalin (Memorial HS, Madison, Wis.) gave Regan's side a 1-0 lead with a third-minute goal. The play started with a
Daniel Artman (Schaumburg HS, Hanover Park, Ill.) corner from the right side.
Matt Allen's (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) shot was stopped by Beloit keeper Luis Rodriguez, but Tomalin was there to follow it in for his first goal of the year. Both Artman and Allen were credited with assists on the play.
In the 22nd minute, sophomore
Tyler Markell (Berthoud HS, Berthoud, Colo.) was pulled down in the box and Junior
Salah Aghlaf (Sabrine HS, Casablanca, Morocco) put his penalty kick deftly into the upper left corner of the net for a 2-0 Viking lead.
Augustana outshot its guests 6-4 in the opening half and took that 2-0 advantage to the halftime break.
In the 50th minute, Markell took a beautiful through ball from Allen and scored to make it 3-0.
The defense handled it from there. Keeper
Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) recorded saves in the 68th and 73rd minute and the Buccaneers final shot, by Andrew Marchesi, went wide in the 83rd minute.
The Vikings finished with a 14-10 edge in shots, including 5-3 in shots on goal.
Beloit was called for 20 fouls to 19 for Augustana. The Buccaneers also received four of the seven yellow cards issued on the day.
